Did you know that a large number of high street tea bag brands contain plastic? The reason for this is so that they don't split when you pour hot water over them, but can mean that we're actually consuming small plastic particles with our brew, which is terrifying! Since finding this out, I have endeavoured to find a tea alternative that is plastic free. My first go to was loose leaf tea - I have tried a couple of different brands which, although tasted absolutely lovely, came packaged in a plastic wrap which defeats the object.
I then came across this brand. The plastic wrap that they use is NatureFlex™ which is made of wood pulp and is completely biodegradable and they also do tea bags that are 100% plastic free!
Price wise, Tea Pigs are probably the most comparative due to their plastic free ethos. Tea Pigs offer a pack of 15 tea bags for £3.99, so at £4.45 these are not much different in price.
As a fond tea lover, I am very excited to give this a go when I can drink caffinated drinks again (currently drinking decaf due to pregnancy). I will update this section in the new year when baby has arrived.
