Soap bars are one of the plastic swaps I found the easiest in my house. They are so versatile and work well as an alternative to face wash, body wash and hand wash - Great for everyday use and as a nice gift or stocking filler.
It has become the norm to have plastic bottles filled with liquid soap and shower gel on our sinks and in our showers instead of the timeless bar of soap. Lots of big liquid soap brands like Method and Carex have started doing refill pouches so that you can reuse the same plastic bottle, however in using these once myself, I noted that the refill pouches are only recyclable with Terracycle which isn't always easily accessible to everyone. The best way to reduce waste in this area is to 'go naked' and make the switch to soap bars or solid shower gel bars, or to opt for soap that comes in compostable packaging. All of the soaps and solid shower gels above are wrapped in fully recyclable cardboard boxes.
Natural soap bars contain some ingredients which can help with inflammation and prevent agains infection which adds an additional benefit above just protecting the environment. As the ingredients are natural, they won't cause any harm to our eco system once they have been washed down the drain.
